Marchie Elevenie Settles, 88, of Big Spring, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel in Big Spring with Bishop Carl Condray officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons and great grandsons, Burr Lea Settles III, Mark Settles, Tristen Settles, Tanner Settles, Brayden Settles, Luke Settles and Hendon Settles.
Marchie was born March 11, 1925, in Saint Jo, Texas, to Charles Wesley Dunford Oliver and Willie Bernice James, and married Burr Lea Settles Nov. 7, 1947, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1999.
She worked as a presser at a variety of dry cleaners in Big Spring, but worked at Gregg Street Cleaners on a regular basis. Prior to this, she worked in Oklahoma in an airplane manufacturing company during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Green and husband Rennon of Temple; two sons, Burr Lea Settles Jr. and wife Sharon of Big Spring, and William Rowan Settles of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren, Burr Lea Settles III and wife Kelli of Big Spring, Mark Settles and wife Melanie of Forsan, Shawn Settles and partner Cynthia of San Antonio, Cara Mia Green of Temple and Amelia Settles of Austin; and six great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wesley Dunford Oliver and Willie James Oliver and one brother Edwin Perkins Oliver.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and of Compass Hospice for the care given to their mother.
