Maria Elena Escobar, 61, of Big Spring died Monday, June 4, 2012, at her residence. Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel.

She was born April 8, 1951, to Maria and Jesus Velasquez in Big Spring, Texas. She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring and a homemaker. She was a member of Templo Belen Assembly of God.

She is survived by her husband, Israel Hernandez of Big Spring; one son, Angel Escobar; six daughters, Blanca Velasquez, Juana Perez and spouse Lionel Perez, Diana Gonzales and spouse Mario Hernandez, Maria Angelita Gonzales and spouse Josue Vidana, Bentura Chavarria and spouse Rey Chavarria and Sarah Gonzales, all of Big Spring; one sister, Alepholia Velasquez of Big Spring; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Rey Velasquez of Big Wells, Texas, and Maximino Velasquez of Baja, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
