Maria R. Gutierrez, 92, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 27, 2014, in Lubbock. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Mrs. Maria Gutierrez was born on July 19, 1922 in Marfa, Texas to Maria Lazars Brito and Luis Rosales. She married Jose Gutierrez in 1940 in Big Spring. She was a housewife and mother. She was also a Guadelupanas and a Crusillista.

Her survivors include three sons, Manuel Gutierrez and wife Lydia of Shallowater, John Gutierrez and wife Christy of Wolfforth and Joe Gutierrez and his wife Gina of Littlefield; six daughters, Loraine Santos and her husband Jose of Lubbock, Elena Gutierrez of Tennessee, Eva Gutierrez of Lubbock and Elidia Cavazos, Susana Gutierrez and Victoria Gutierrez, all of Lubbock; three sisters, Solida Rodriguez of Sand Springs, Juanita Rodriguez of Stanton and Posquala Garcia, also of Stanton; 27 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1952; her mother in 1953; her husband Jose Gutierrez on Feb. 8, 2008; three brothers, Alfoaso Heredia in 1964, Juna Heredia in 1976 and Melesio Brito in 1977; one sister, Cresenia Rios; and one son, Paul Gutierrez in 2013.
