STANTON — A Martin County grand jury chose not to indict a Midland law enforcement officer involved in the January shooting death of a 54-year-old man following a standoff near Lenorah.
According to 118th District Attorney Hardy Wilkerson, the grand jury declined to indict the officer that shot and killed Lonny Martin following a brief chase on Highway 176 on Jan. 23.
“The Texas Rangers were brought in to investigate, and we presented their findings to the grand jury, which declined to true-bill the case,” Wilkerson said. “Presenting it to the grand jury in this manner is normal procedure when you have a shooting death like this.”
