Mary Paredez

Mary Paredez, 86, of San Antonio, formerly of Big Spring, died Friday Jan. 17, 2014, at Heartland Nursing Home in San Antonio. Rosary services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial following at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

She was born to Pilar and Hijinio Roman on Oct. 23, 1927, in Pecos, Texas. She lived in the community since 1932. She married Pedro Paredez Sr., June 24, 1950 in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1992.
She was a teacher in public schools. She began her teaching career at Headstart and then taught a number of years at Moss Elementary. She was very active in the community and her church. She was a Catholic.

She is survived by two sons, Pedro Paredez Jr. and wife Connie, and Paul Fernando Paredez and wife Mary, all of Grapevine; two daughters, Nell Paredez-Cariola and husband Sal of Houston, and Mary Ann Paredez of San Antonio; one sister, Margie Roman; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Bertina Jo DeLeon and JoLinda Sue Paredez; one sister, Cecilia Jaramillo; and two brothers, Carlos Roman and Marcos Roman.
