McKinney to highlight festival

July 1, 2011

By the time Mark McKinney takes the stage Saturday night, Funtastic Fourth Festival board members will already know if this year’s downtown celebration will be the best yet. McKinney, a Big Spring native, is icing on the proverbial Independence Day cake. Even if Independence Day is really Monday.

McKinney has been performing professionally since the mid-1990s, and stepped into the spotlight with his 2007 album, “Get it On.” Since then, he’s released several others — “Back in the Day (Sessions from ‘98),” “Middle America” and “Home” — which have all been well received. His roots lie in country and rock and roll and he writes most of his own music. Known as an energetic performer, McKinney regularly tours across the Southwest.

He is to take the FF Festival stage Saturday at 10 p.m.
