Model plane club taking to the skies this weekend

June 9, 2011

It's all about having fun.

For the past 31 years, the Big Spring Model Aircraft Association has been putting on a fun fly. Once again the fun fly will take place at John Wesley Buzbee Airfield Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is a neat thing to see, especially for the airplane enthusiasts who don't really get the opportunity to fly,” said Robert Walker, president of the Big Spring Model Aircraft Association. “It's a great chance for them to see the aircraft up close.”

The fun fly is open to anyone at no charge, but they have to be AMA certified to participate. The certification shows proof of insurance to fly in the sanctioned events, according to Walker.
