Money matters top Forsan ISD's agenda in 2012

January 9, 2012

FORSAN — It's a new year, but many of the issues facing Forsan Independent School District in 2012 will be familiar ones.

Ask Superintendent Randy Johnson about what FISD is eyeing in t2012 and the first answer he will give you is the same that has concerned school districts the past few years — how to deal with shrinking state allocations.

“School finance continues to be a major issue for us,” Johnson said. “In the 2012-2013 fiscal year, we'll have another 3.5 percent cut in state revenue … and that's going to make things even tougher.”

A 3.5 percent cut in state revenue will mean that Forsan will have to absorb an economic hit of between $200,000 and $300,000, Johnson estimated.

FISD dealt with the last round of state cuts, in part, by eliminating some staff positions, but Johnson doubts the district will resort to that action again.
