It's almost moving day for Big Spring's municipal court.

Judge Tim Green and his staff are preparing to leave their current headquarters at 305 Johnson and move to the third floor of the Howard County Courthouse. There, they will occupy the former office of the district clerk and share courtroom space with county commissioners, the attorney general's office and Child Protective Services.

The move will begin Monday and is scheduled to be complete by the end of the week, Green said.

“We'll see where we are that Tuesday,” Green said. “We hope to have some of our services up and running then. We understand that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be shaky … but we will definitely be open for business (at the courthouse) on Sept. 30.”

Accordingly, people needing to pay traffic tickets or other municipal fines will get a few more days to fulfill their obligations.

“We're not going to hold anyone accountable for their fines (Monday and Tuesday),” he said. “We're going to be giving people a lot of leeway until the 30th.”
