Nadine Lillian (Haynes) Hodnett, 102, of Big Spring, died peacefully at Parkview Nursing Home Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Frank Hodnett and the Rev. Joey Bacon officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Nadine was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Fluvanna, Texas, to Lucetta Haley Haynes and Henry Harrison Haynes. She graduated from Fluvanna High School and attended Westmoreland College, now Trinity University, in San Antonio, Texas. She taught school at Knott, Texas, and Cauble, Texas, and had substituted in Big Spring. On Nov. 24, 1932, she married Merle Francis Hodnett in Carlsbad, N.M. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1976.
She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class. Nadine was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 50 years and the Texas Home Demonstration Club. She was also a member of the Garden Club of Big Spring and the Retired Teachers Association.
