New schools prompt changes for students

January 13, 2012

You child may be moving next year — to a new school, that is.

At Thursday's Big Spring Independent School District board of trustees meeting, officials unveiled new maps detailing where students in grades kindergarten through 5 will attend school starting with the 2012-2013 school year.

The new attendance zones will become a necessity next year when the district opens four new elementary campuses, shuts down Bauer Elementary and converts Kentwood Elementary to a pre-kindergarten campus.

Under the new map, student who attend Bauer this school year will transfer to either Moss or Washington elementaries in 2012-2013. Students currently attending Kentwood will move to Washington. In addition, the majority of the district's special needs elementary students will attend classes at Moss, officials said.
