Norma Geneva Wheeler of Big Spring was reunited with her husband, Joe Max Wheeler, in Heaven on Thursday evening, Jan. 5, 2012. Norma peacefully passed away at Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock with her twin sons, Ronald and Donald, standing at her side. Norma was the eighth and youngest child born to Albert and May Shortes in the Brown Community on their family farm close to Ackerly, Texas, on Aug. 2, 1924.
Norma and Joe married on Jan. 9, 1943. They lived in New Mexico and in Iowa for a few years, returning to Texas and settling in Big Spring in 1960, where they raised their three sons, Marvie Allen, Ronald Joe and Donald Max.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1985; her parents, Albert and May Shortes; and her siblings, Owell Shortes, Othel Fitts, Erma Blagrave, Loyd Shortes, Nona Blagrave, Fabain Shortes and Mark Shortes.
Norma is survived by her three sons, Ronald and Donald of Big Spring and Marvie and wife Evelyn of Big Spring; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Dorothea Shortes (Fabainâ€™s wife) of Simi Valley, Calif.; the Wheeler in-laws, Robert and Dorothy Wheeler of Big Spring, Dorothy Wheeler Downey and Vonnie Downey of Big Spring and Alton and Willy Wheeler of Pasadena; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with the Rev. Craig Holdstedt officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the funeral home.
