Offices to close for holidays

December 21, 2010

Most municipal and county offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Christmas holiday, officials announced.

The city of Big Spring will close all offices, including the landfill and compost facility, according to a news release. There will be no sanitation pickups on these days.

In addition, city offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of the New Year's Day Holiday.

Howard County will close its offices at 3 p.m. Wednesday and the offices will remain closed Thursday and Friday for Christmas. Unlike the city, however, county offices will remain open on New Year's Eve.

City and county emergency offices — police, sheriff, EMS and fire — will maintain normal operations throughout the holidays.

Howard County public schools, plus Howard College, have dismissed classes for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Big Spring, Coahoma and Forsan school districts will resume classes Jan. 4. Spring semester classes at Howard College begin Jan. 18.
