Omega Hernandez, 80, of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
She was born June 13, 1931, in Rotan to Epifania Alcala Galan and Felix Galan. She attended schools in Roby and graduated in 1949. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Abilene in 1954.
After coming to Big Spring she graduated from Howard County Junior College as a licensed vocational nurse in 1979. She then worked in the Big Spring nursing homes. She later graduated as a medical office assistant, and later as a medical claims and billing specialists. She served 39 years as a voting judge for Precinct I and assisted with income tax preparation for the Hispanic community.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She married Miguel “Mike” Hernandez on July 9, 1963, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2005.
She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Morelion of Big Spring; one son, Michael R. Hernandez of Big Spring; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Alonzo, Adam, Alvaro and Felix; and four sisters, Argentina, Aurora, Angelina and Pola.
