Opal Jean Magers, 80, of Big Spring died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Kristi Lee Manor Nursing Home in Colorado City. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor William T. Vaughn of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and Pastor Holston Banks of Shiloh House of Praise officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born June 5, 1932, in Spur, Texas, to Mary and Matthew Scott. She married Ellihue Magers on June 5, 1955, in San Angelo, Texas. He preceded her in death July 7, 2006. She worked as a cook at the Big Spring State Hospital and Scenic Mountain Medical Center before retiring.
She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by six children, Eugene Scott of Big Spring, Sandra Magers of Charlotte, N.C., Rose Magers Powell of Huntsville, Ala., James Magers of Big Spring, Linda Magers of Tampa, Fla. and Nannie Lee Magers of Tuskofee, Ala.; one brother, Matthew Scott of Corinth, Texas; one sister, Lilly Josey of San Angelo, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John Magers; and a daughter, Lena Magers.
