Opera star Graham to open Symphony season Saturday

September 17, 2013

Susan Graham, internationally known opera diva, will be the guest artist Saturday when the Big Spring Symphony orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Keith Graumann, begins its 32nd season.

Graham will be performing some of the most popular operatic arias from Carmen, the Marriage of Figaro and the Merry Widow. She’ll sing in both halves of the program, before and after the intermission and she’ll close the concert.

“We’re fortunate to have such a distinguished personality to open this year’s season,” said Graumann, symphony conductor. “She brings a lot of excitement to the stage.”

The Saturday performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium. A handicapped entrance is on the east side of the building. Tickets will be available at the door. Prices are $18 for adults, $13 for seniors. There is no charge for students 8 to 18.

In addition to Graham, the audience will hear music from the Barber of Seville and Pomp and Circumstance.
