Oscar 'Ozzy' Cruz

Oscar “Ozzy” Cruz, 50, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Oscar was born July 9, 1962, in O’Donnell, Texas to Celia (Terrazas) and Guadalupe Cruz. He grew up in Stanton, Texas and attended seventh grade in Big Spring, Texas. After dropping out of school in the 11th grade, he obtained his GED followed by a degree in Computer Science from Howard College of Big Spring. He played Santa Claus for the family which everyone enjoyed.

His first truck driving job was for Jack Cathy. He was last employed by Brantley Trucking. His very first job was at Long John Silvers. He married Flora Ortega on May 19, 1987; the couple just celebrated their 25th anniversary. He was the head of his family and was like a second father of the family after their father passed away 20 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Flora Cruz of Big Spring; one daughter, Ashley Torres of Big Spring; one son, Oscar Cruz, Jr., of Midland; three granddaughters, Ameris Torres and Autumn Torres, both of Big Spring, and Estella Cruz of Midland; three grandsons, Benito Torres and Zachariah Torres, both of Big Spring, and Ethan Cruz of Midland; one brother, Jamie Cruz of Big Spring and two sisters, Maria Ornelas of San Antonio and Alice Banda of Eagle Pass.

He was preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe and Celia Cruz, and a sister, Ampro Garcia.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Cruz, Jr., Lupe Cruz, Joe Ortega, Jr., Eutimio Ortega, Juan Banda, Stevie Banda and Rigo Moran.
