Pappajohn, Hill and Burchett selected as Players of the Week

September 19, 2012

Big Spring's Max Pappajohn was chosen as Player of the Week by Head Coach Phillip Ritchey. Forsan Head Coach Jason Phillips selected Trevor Burchett and Coahoma's Trey Gardner picked Alex Hill.

Big Spring —

The Steers’ redemption of last year’s 0-10 record is well underway.

Big Spring is now 3-0 as they head into Friday’s homecoming game against Andrews and senior linebacker Max Pappajohn has played a big part of the program’s success.

“He had the big hit of the game (against Lake View) defensively,” BSHS Head Coach Phillip Ritchey said. “He is all over the field making plays and being a leader.”

Pappajohn also plays tight end on the offensive side of the ball.

Coahoma —

Coahoma Head Coach Trey Gardner’s squad has had some ups and downs as the 1-2 Bulldogs were narrowly defeated by Forsan in their opener, rebounded with a big win over Coleman in week two, then fell last Friday to Colorado City.

Gardner was hampered by injuries, however, senior linebacker and guard Alex Hill was one of the bright spots in the Bulldogs 20-6 loss.

“He had 13 tackles and a fumble recovery,” Gardner saidof Hill. “He anchors our defense and does a good job at the middle linebacker position, too.”

FORSAN —

The Forsan Buffaloes took out rival Stanton on Friday to improve to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 1998.

A consistent force on offense and defense has been the multi-purpose Trevor Burchett, who led the Buffs on defense in their latest win.

“He was our leading tackler,” Phillips said. “He made seven solo tackles and prevented some long runs. As a free safety, he’s a good one to have back there. He also made a couple of good plays on special teams. He’s just solid on both sides of the ball.”
