Get out your black and gold garb, exes — it’s homecoming in Big Spring.

Big Spring High School homecoming activities will be in full swing today and Friday, with all the usual pageantry — a parade and the crowning of a king and queen — and even a slight alteration to an old standby, the homecoming bonfire.

Because of this year’s severe drought, school officials decided to ditch this year’s bonfire. In its place, the school will hold a “simulated” bonfire and pep rally at the city park amphitheater tonight at 8 p.m. There will be a bonfire, only on video screens, during the event, which is open to the public.

Two major homecoming traditions that will go on as usual are the parade and crowning of the king and queen, both scheduled for Friday.
