Pastor pleads guilty to solicitation charge

May 19, 2011

An Ackerly preacher recently pleaded guilty to two counts of online solicitation of a minor — a third-degree felony — in 118th District Court, part of a plea agreement with the district attorney's office.

George Ray McMorris Jr., 40, of 101 Ave. B in Ackerly, was indicted in November on three counts of online solicitation of a minor.

According to Assistant District Attorney Robin Orr, McMorris accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to two counts while the third count was dropped. “

He received five years in prison, which was probated out to five years probation,” Orr said. “He also must pay a $1,000 fine for each of the two counts.”

Orr said the victim's family agreed with the plea agreement.
