Positive reports highlight EDC meeting

April 1, 2011

Terry Wegman

Progress reports — all positive — dominated a meeting of the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation this week.

Board members received an update from Howard College representative Kinsey Hansen concerning a technical program curriculum started in late 2009.

“We saw (in 2009) a need to reintroduce technical programs, not only to college students, but for incumbent workers and high school students,” said Terry Wegman, BSEDC executive director. “We were seeing a huge dropout rate between ninth and 12th grade and we wanted to implement a program that would help this problem.”
