Pots and Prints free workshop Friday

October 3, 2013

What the heck is Pots and Prints?

That was the question posed to the assistant professor of the Howard College art department.

“It's ceramics and making prints on a special kind of paper,” Assistant Art Professor Stacy Slaten commented. However, this led to the query of how a ceramic piece could be made in a one-day workshop. Traditionally, a ceramic piece can take weeks to produce. “It is a type of firing call raku,” said Slaten and explained that In raku firing, the glaze firing times for raku ware are short: an hour or two as opposed to up to 16 hours for high-temperature stoneware firings.

This free workshop is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Howard College Hall Center for the Arts and is being sponsored by the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

For more information, contact Slaten at 264-5115.
