You know it’s almost Relay time in Big Spring when people start kissing mules.
That was the situation Monday at H-E-B, when Meat Market Manager Lino Lopez and Store Director Jerry Bills puckered up and smooched mules Jane and Jenny.
“H-E-B has a team called ‘H-E-B Wipe Out Cancer’ and we’re part of the Relay For Life fundraiser that they do every year here in Big Spring,” said Wipe Out Cancer team leader Marcia Bennett. “This event is called ‘Kiss The Mule.’ What we had our partners from the store do, they bought jellybeans at 25 cents apiece or six for a dollar, and they put them in the department manager’s jar that they wanted to see kiss the mule. Jerry Bills and Lino Lopez, they tied. Jerry’s done this before. Lino’s never done it and he’s very nervous about it.”
All told, this single event raised about $300 for Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s annual fundraiser program.
