Three Howard County officials will seek re-election on the Republican ticket Monday morning, as filing in this year's political party primaries got under way.
Sheriff Stan Parker, Precinct 3 Commissioner Jimmie Long and Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Place 1 Bennie Green all filed to run for re-election with Republican Party Chairman Craig Bailey Monday morning, the first day for political hopefuls to throw their hats in the ring for 2012.
Parker, who will be finishing his first four-year-term in office, said the decision to run for re-election was a fairly simple one for him.
“It wasn't a hard decision at all for me. I've enjoyed what I've done as sheriff, and I feel feel like my family and the community are behind me on this,” Parker said. “This has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my career in law enforcement, and we've been able to accomplish a lot of things that have made the community a better place. Crime rates are down, cooperation between the county and the city is at an all-time high ... the sky really is the limit from here.”
