Special to the Herald

The Howard/Glasscock Relay For Life will have a new look in 2012, with Manny Negron assuming the role of chair of the Relay Committee. Negron, claims supervisor at the local Wal-Mart, has previously served as Team Recruitment co-chair.

Debbye ValVerde, executive director of Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, who has co-chaired the Survivor Committee, has been named regional Hero of Hope and plans to assist Negron in that role. She has been active in the Salazar family’s sponsorship of the Candle of Hope for several relays.

With the Community Wrap-Up Meeting earlier this month, the 2011 Howard/Glasscock Relay For Life concluded, although the financial books will not close until August. Co-chairs Vicki Stewart and Diane Wood announced the net funds total as $169,803.18, with other amounts expected to be added.
