Richard 'Dick' Allen Battle

Richard "Dick" Allen Battle of San Antonio, passed away Nov. 18, 2011, at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Eddy Pitchford, minister of the Coahoma Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Richard was born Aug. 27, 1958, in Big Spring. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1976 and graduated from Lubbock Christian College in 1980. He married Vicki Lynn Switser on Sept. 23, 1978. Dick worked with many grocery store chains and in 2002 he and Vicki started the Rio Star Carpet Cleaning and Custodial Service in Harlingen, Texas. He was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ in San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; one daughter, LaNae; his parents, Myrtie and D.C. Lee and Bill and Linda Battle; one brother, Roger Battle and wife Debbie; three sisters, Karen Halfmann and husband Tommy and Darlene Battle and Kelsey Swearingen and husband Kyle; a step-sister, Jana McQueary and husband Tom; a nephew, Jason Battle and wife Jill and their daughters, Jenna, Jessa and Jolee; two nieces, Krystal and Brandi Halfmann; and three step-sisters, Sheri Lepard and husband Ron, Patti Meeks and husband Terry, and Jana Lee; and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.W. and Fabris Moore and William and Gladys Battle.
The family suggests memorials be made to The Lighthouse of the Blind, 2305 Roosevelt Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78210 or to a favorite charity.
