Richard Gilmore, 77, of Coahoma died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Midway Baptist Church with burial at Coahoma Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Howard County to Flossie and Lawrence Gilmore. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County and married Jane Graham on Oct. 30, 1955, in Coahoma. He worked for the City of Coahoma, Howard County and later as a truck driver and service technician in the oil field.
He was an ordained minister and also served as a youth leader. He was an active member of Midway Baptist Church. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for Coahoma and Howard County. He loved fishing and fish fries, camping, gardening, wood working and crafts. Most of all, Richard loved the Lord and his family.
He is survived by one daughter, Jana Smith and husband Earnie of Coahoma; one son, Leslie Gilmore and wife Judy of Lorenzo, Texas; five grandchildren, Shane Gilmore of Edmond, Okla., Cody Gilmore and Kelsey Gilmore, both of Smyer, Texas, Steven Smith and wife Heather of Shallowater, Keith Smith and wife Kendra of Big Spring and Maurry Powe and wife Jeton of Plainview; eight great-grandchildren, Brian Smith, MaKayla Smith, Brandon Smith, Wyatt Powe, Lexie Bennett, Beaux Bennett, Shelbi Crawford and Josh Smith; two brothers, Don Gilmore and wife Lisa of San Angelo and Melvin Gilmore and wife Dora Jane of Oklahoma; one sister, Ruby Pitzer and husband Kenneth of San Marcos; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jane on Sept. 12, 2010; and one sister, Patsy May.
Pallbearers will be Joe Mansfield, Benny Mansfield, George Smith, Ben Smith, Tyler Sheppard and Stanley Phillips.
