Rock the Desert begins Thursday

MIDLAND — The desert will be rocking for the 12th year at Rock the Desert 2011, Spirit in the Sky.
Rock the Desert 2011 has been scheduled Thursday through Saturday.
According to Rock the Desert officials, this year's lineup is the “most thrilling” yet. Bands will include Sent by Ravens, Disciple, The Afters, Underoath, Stars Go Dim, Sevenglory, Remedy Drive, Superchick, Decemberadio, Mike Farris, Skillet, Aaron Gillespie, Revive, Stellar Kart, Transform DJ's, Switchfoot, Ben Rector and David Crowder. In addition, there will be several speakers — Matt Pitt, Canton Jones and Brian “Head” Welch.
"We are really excited about the speakers for this year," said Amory Snelson, office manager for Rock the Desert. "We have heard them before and they are all really great speakers."
The ongoing partnership with Shoes for Hungry Souls/Buckner International will continue. Shoe drives have been taking place throughout the community of Midland and thousands of shoes have been collected.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. Purchases can be made online or by calling the office.
Gates open 2 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
