Rod Run roars into town Friday

August 29, 2013

Let's go cruisin'.

The Big Spring Cruisers car, motorcycle and truck club will hold its 42nd annual Rod Run and Sonic Cruise beginning Friday evening and up to 100 of the finest vintage two -and-four-wheel vehicles from around West Texas and southeast New Mexico — along with their owners, of course — are expected to participate.

Billed as the oldest consecutive rod run in Texas, the annual event begins with the Sonic Cruise Friday evening. Participants will gather at the Sonic Drive-In at 601 E. FM 700 at 6 p.m. Registration is $10 per vehicle and prizes will be awarded to the top 10 cruisers.

The club's annual car show will be held at the Old Settlers Pavilion at Comanche Trail Park Saturday morning.

Registration for the show is $25 per entry.

Judging will be done in the following categories: muscle cars (pre-1985), street cars (pre-1949), motorcycles, classic cars (1955-1984), tuner, Volkswagen; restoration in progress, pickups (pre-1960), Covevette, late model (post-1985, tractor, custom, pickup (post-1980), original (pre-1985), new muscle car (post-2000) and tri-5 Chevy.

There will be a Best in Show award, as well as trophies for the top three finishers in each class.
All proceeds from the show go to the First Baptist Church's Mission Center and the public is invited to attend. Food and drink will be available.
