Ronald Keith Long Sr. 59, of Big Spring, passed from this life, Monday, March 3, 2014, in a local hospital. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. A private service will be held for the family.
Ron was born Feb. 3, 1955, in Pelham, Ga. to Roy and Mary Long and married Martha Corkery March 5, 1982, in Hobbs, N.M.
Ron served in the U.S. Army and worked for more than 20 years with Dr. Robert Hayes as his physicianâ€™s assistant, While in his fifties, he earned his masterâ€™s degree from Texas Tech University. After retiring from Dr. Hayesâ€™ office, he began working for the MHMR and the Big Spring State Hospital. He was a Mason and enjoyed serving others. His two great loves were Mexico and motorcycles. He called this his life after children. Another joy of his was attending services at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Long of Big Spring; two sons, Ronald Keith Long Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Jefferson, Ga., and Richard L. "Quinn" Quillian Long and fiancĂ©, Kattie Mendes, of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Ariana and Benjamin Long; his mother, Mary Long, of Cleveland, Ga.; and three brothers, Eugene Long of Chattanooga, Tenn., Craig Long of Marietta, Ga., and Charlie Long of Cleveland, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Long.
