Ruben P. Torres, 79, of Big Spring died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at his residence. Vigil services will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Monsignor Bernard Gully officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Taft, Texas to Santos and Refugio Torres. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He moved to Big Spring in 1955. He married Josie Hinojosa on May 16, 1956, in Taft, Texas. He was a surgical technician at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of 32 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Josie Torres of Big Spring; one daughter: Linda Torres of Big Spring; one son: Larry Torres and his wife Cindy of Big Spring; two sisters: Mary Pena of Lubbock and Sylvia Mendez and her husband Wally of Big Spring; one brother: Ricardo Torres of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Ruben P. Torres, Jr. in 1988; and one sister, Delia Cevallos.
