Ruby Nell Shortes

Ruby Nell Shortes went to be with the Lord July 5, 2014, at the age of 94. She was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Enterprise, Ala., to James and Vonnie Simmons. She married Quentin Shortes May 28, 1940. They spent 43 years as Assembly of God missionaries in Guatemala.

Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Shortes, infant daughter Sheryl Quenell, her parents and three brothers.

Ruby is survived and will be missed by her sons, Ron Shortes and wife Sylvia of Waxahachie, Texas, and Marvin Shortes and wife Glynis, of Waxahachie, Texas; daughter, Sherri Shull and husband Ron of Cedar Hill, Texas; grandchildren, Kim Smotts, Kurtis Shortes, Mike Shortes, Tammy Logue, Brent Shull and Marcus Shortes; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Carroll G. Simmons; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Waxahachie Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at University Assembly of God Church, 221 Solon Road, Waxahachie, Texas. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday July 10, 2014 at Mount Olive Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.
