SA: Come have Thanksgiving dinner with us

November 27, 2013

The turkeys have been cooked and preparations are nearing the final stages for the Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving Day dinner.

As they have for the past several years, Salvation Army officials will open the agency's doors Thursday to anyone wanting to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Salvation Army headquarters, 811 W. Fifth.

There's only one requirement people have to meet to enjoy the meal — an appetite.

“This is free to anyone who wants a meal,” said the Salvation Army's Ada Lafler. “All they have to do is show up — and for those who are homebound and can't get out, we'll deliver meals. All people have to do is call us and give us their names, addresses, phone numbers and the number of plates they need.”

Aside from the Salvation Army, Alive in Christ Lutheran Church will provide free Thanksgiving meals Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. at 2805 Lynn, organizer Jeannie Knocke said.

Home delivery also is available by calling either 264-7818 or 213-0698, Knocke said.
