Saldivar announces resignation as BSISD superintendent

July 11, 2013

Dr. Steven Saldivar, superintendent of Big Spring public schools, announced during Thursday's school board meeting he will resign by the end of the coming school year.

Saldivar, who has led Big Spring Independent School District since 2008, said the timing was right for his announcement.

"It's an amicable relationship I've had with the school board here," he said. "They have been good to me and I appreciate the opportunity they gave me as superintendent here ... Five years is a good tenure for a school superintendent. I've thoroughly enjoyed it here. We've got a good school board and I've enjoyed working with the teachers and staff in the district."

School Board Vice President Chad Wash said Saldivar's resignation will be effective on or before June 30, 2014.

"He's done a very good job for us," Wash said. "The district is fiscally sound (but) both parties are looking at different paths they want to take."
