Big Spring Independent School District Superintendent Steven Saldivar announced this morning he has accepted the chief administrator's post at Anthony ISD in far West Texas.
Saldivar, who recently submitted his resignation here, was named âlone finalistâ for the superintendent position at Anthony during that school district's board meeting Monday. His hiring will become official after a mandatory three-week waiting period.
He first interviewed for the position two weeks ago, then was called back for a second interview last week before being named the lone finalist.
Anthony, which straddles the New Mexico border west of El Paso, is a slightly smaller school district than Big Spring, although its high school is in the same University Interscholastic League classification. Saldivar will replace Ron Haugen, who is retiring after six years as superintendent of the district.
âAnthony does well academically and philosophically, it seems like a good match for me,â Saldivar said. âIt's almost like this was the place I was meant to go next.â
Saldivar, who was superintendent at Big Spring since 2008, announced his resignation â effective on or before June 30, 2014 â at the end of the July 11 school board meeting.
