For sale: County property

November 26, 2013

Howard County's Road and Bridge Department may be pulling up stakes — literally — within the next few weeks.

At their Monday meeting, county commissioners unanimously voted to accept bids for the property that's currently home to the road and bridge department.

The property, located a block west of Lamesa Highway and south of Interstate 20, has attracted the attention of some business interests, County Judge Mark Barr said.

“We've received inquiries on what it would take to buy the property,” Barr said.

Following a 30-minute closed session, commissioners voted to start the bidding process for the property, with two major caveats: The minimum acceptable bid for the land will be $750,000 and the buyer must allow the department six months to relocate.
