Sands to hold graduation Friday

ACKERLY — Jennifer Renee Franco and Preston Zant will lead the Sands High School Class of 2013 when it holds graduation exercises Friday.

Franco, the daughter of Patricia Franco and the late Sonny Franco, is class valedictorian with a grade point average of 94.92. She is a member of the National Honor Society and student council and was a regional qualifier in UIL academics this year.

In athletics, she was active in basketball, track and cross-country.

She plans to attend Midland College in the fall and study diagnostic medical sonography.

Zant, the son of Scott and Michelle Zant, is class salutatorian with a GPA of 93.76. He was a member of the NHS, student council and Future Farmers of America.

His extra-curricular achievements include being a state qualifier in number sense and being named academic all-state in both football and basketball.

In athletics, he was earned all-district recognition in football, basketball and track.

He will enroll in South Plains College in the fall with a dual major in business administration and agricultural and applied economics.

Members of the Sands High School Class of 2013 are Alexia Robles, Ismael Martinez, Canessa Gonzales, Jennifer Franco, Preston Zant, Marisela Munoz, Anthony Villegas, Angelica Diaz, Sabrina Rodriguez, Caleb Thomasson, Callie McMorris, Erik Flores and Barry Norris.

SHS commencement will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium.
