Santos Diaz Lopez, 74, passed away Saturday, Aug.24, 2013, at his residence. Services for Mr. Lopez will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at The Church of the Blessed with Pastor Johnny Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. Mr. Lopez will lie in state at The Church of the Blessed all day today with a Celebration of Life service being held tonight at 7 p.m.

Santos was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Big Spring to Ponciano and Hortencia Lopez. He married Flavia Sanchez on May 29, 1956 in Midland. After working for many years as a concrete laborer, Mr. Lopez opened Southwestern Concrete, which he co-owned with his son for more than 19 years. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Rangers and Cowboys games and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Tony Lopez of Shallowater and Felipe Lopez of Lubbock; three daughters, Yolanda Valdivia, Belinda Solis and Melissa Ann Leo, all of Lubbock; one brother, Habacue D. Lopez of Big Spring; four sisters, Martha Sandoval of Nebraska, Maria Luisa Ladesma and Anna Lopez, both of Big Spring, and Rosa Flores of Colorado City; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Santos Lopez Jr.; two daughters, Irene Mendez and Gloria Ann Lopez; three brothers, Lucas Lopez, Ponciano Lopez Jr. and Joel Lopez; three sisters, Manuela Rosales, Maria Elena Gonzalez and Ruth Contreras; and one granddaughter, Amy Vasquez.
