School district facing 'significant' deficit

Big Spring Independent School District officials are facing a significant budget shortfall for the coming fiscal year.

Trustees learned during their Thursday meeting that declining property valuations brought on by the oil industry downturn will mean the school district will have to deal with a built-in $1.5 million deficit when crafting its next budget.
