Students and parents may like some of the changes Big Spring Independent School District Food Services has in store for the coming year.
But one major change won't make anyone happy.
When students return to classes Aug. 22, they'll notice some changes to the fare they're offered in the cafeterias. Meals will now feature more vegetables, fresh fruits and other additions designed to make the meals both nutritious and appealing.
And high school students will be able to take advantage of a build-your-own burrito bar and purchase fruit smoothies before school and during lunch.
On the down side, however, the cost of lunch meals at all campuses is increasing this school year. Lunches at the elementary campuses is increasing 20 cents to $2, while junior high/high school meals are being raised to $2.25, a 45-cent hike from the previous school year.
Adult lunch prices will be $2.75 at all campuses.
