Science fair students state bound

March 6, 2013

Eight Big Spring Independent School District students are heading for the state science fair, thanks to superior performances at regional competition in Odessa this past weekend.

Brittany Tan, Haley Jenkins, Chloe Bustamante, Oscar Alvarado, Trinady Joslin, Ranen Wilson and Kylie Palmer from Big Spring Junior High School, along with Rebecca Evans from Big Spring High School earned a spot in the state science fair, which will be held later this month in San Antonio.

The students qualified for the state fair by placing in the top three of their respective divisions in the regional competition, held at University of Texas-Permian Basin.

BSISD elementary students also competed in Odessa, although they were not eligible to advance to state.

“We didn't have as many entries this year, and we didn't have as many winners, but still, the projects we had were good ones,” said Darrell Ryan, BSISD sponsor for the science fair. “The kids did a really good job.”

The state science fair will be held March 26-29 at the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
