A Big Spring man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child after law enforcement officials allege he assaulted a 2-year-old.
Larry Wayne Nicholson, 30, was booked into the Howard County Detention Center by the Big Spring Police Department at approximately 4:45 p.m. on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to jail records.
Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer for the local police department, said Nicholson had been brought to the BSPD offices for questioning regarding the complaint.
“Following questioning, Nicholson was arrested at the police department and transported to the county jail, where he was booked,” Everett said. “The victim in the case is 2 years old and Nicholson was acquainted with the child. However, this is an ongoing investigation and i will not go into any further details.”
Everett said the incidents of alleged sexual assault took place at a residence in the city's eastern side, but declined to be more specific regarding the location.
“We want to do everything we can to protect the victim in this case,” Everett said. “They have already been through enough.”
Everett said it's too early in the investigation to know how long the alleged abuse has been going on, but did confirm the last reported instance of sexual abuse is believed to have happened approximately two days ago.
Nicholson was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported as a result of the arrest, according to police records.
Everett declined to comment on the physical or medical status of the 2-year-old, citing the open investigation and efforts to protect the child's identity.
Bond had not been set for Nicholson at press time.
