'Shear' support: Students lose their locks for teacher fighting cancer

Worrying about what others would think was the last thing on the minds of 11 Coahoma elementary students.

What started as an idea of one fourth grader, Jaxon Muller, turned into a group of kids showing their support for Coahoma elementary physical education coach Deana Clark. Clark was diagnosed with breast cancer and has started rounds of chemotherapy. Due to the treatments she has lost her hair.

“One day Jaxon came up to me and said, 'Can we shave our heads for Coach Clark?,'” said Patricia Bennett, Coahoma elementary principal. “It was unexpected just because he's a quiet kid. He's a good student, but he's real quiet.”
