Sheriff awaiting test results on possible skull fragment

Law enforcement officials say they are still waiting on preliminary findings from the laboratory examining what is believed to be a piece of a human skull discovered Dec. 20 in Howard County.

Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said he had hoped to have a preliminary report on the skull last week, but as of yet the laboratory examining the evidence has not yet released any information.

“We had hoped to have the results of the preliminary examination by now, but we're still waiting at this point,” Parker said. “The investigation is still open and ongoing, so I can't discuss the details at this time. We're just going to have to be patient.”

A press release issued by the Howard County Sheriff's Office Dec. 20 advised law enforcement officials were called to the scene — believed to be a salvage yard in the northern part of Howard County — around 11 a.m. after what appeared to be a piece of a human skull was found.

Parker said he's hopeful an examination of the skull will turn up some key information, either confirming or disconfirming the piece of evidence is indeed a human skull, as well as information such as sex and age.
