Staff Writer

Scenic Mountain Medical Center and United Blood Services are partnering up to encourage people to donate blood this summer.
On Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Scenic Mountain Medical Center, people will have the opportunity to give blood.
Individuals that wish to donate blood must be at least 16 years old however for 16 and 17 year donors need a Minor Donor Permit Form signed by a parent or guardian, the form can be found at www.unitedbloodservices.org. Donors must also weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Those who are between ages 16 and 22 must meet additional height and weight requirements to give blood.
United Blood Services also offers another option to expedite the donation process by allowing donors to fill out the health history online at their website www.unitedbloodservices.org. After completing the ‘Fast Track’ option people can present the bar code they receive afterwards to the techs at the ‘bloodmobile’ saving some time.
