Snyder family gets help with fundraising

August 25, 2011

The smallest gesture can make the biggest difference.

Madonna Chavez Horvatich, former Big Spring resident, has stepped up and is doing what she can in order to help raise funds for Cpl. Darrell Campbell — a Snyder police officer who was shot in the line of duty July 12 — to help ease costs incurred in his recovery.

“I heard about this and it really hit home since my dad was involved in law enforcement most of his life,” Horvatich said. “This man was just doing his job when this happened and I remember how we used to worry about my dad.”

Last weekend, Campbell Fest 2011 — a benefit concert — was held at the Scurry County Coliseum in hopes of raising funds for Campbell and his family. Horvatich had a booth set up at that event for her own personal business and donated half of her profits to the cause.

I wanted to do more,” she said. “I felt there was something more I could do.”
