Some changes to this year's Christmas parade

December 4, 2013

Most everyone knows that Saturday’s Big Spring Herald Christmas Parade — in an effort to improve the increased flow of traffic on Gregg — will be moved a block east to Scurry. There are a few other alterations spectators and parade participants need to be aware of, as well.

Unlike the many parking areas available on Gregg, spectators are being asked not to park on the street along Scurry, so that the parade may flow smoothly.

Also, in cooperation with the city and other entities, there will be a designated dropoff area at the end of the parade.

The parade will begin at Scurry and 24th and travel north on Scurry to Fourth Street. At Fourth, the parade will turn right, then turn right again on Main in front of Wells Fargo. The dropoff area — the area to allow children and adults an opportunity to safely disembark from floats and other vehicles — will be along Main from Fourth to Seventh streets. That area will be blocked off.
