'Son of a Farmer' book signing set

April 12, 2011

Nobody better to talk farming than a farmer.

Eric Herm, author of “Son of a Farmer, Child of the Earth” and a fourth-generation farmer, will be at the Heritage Museum for a book signing and presentation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

“It's not just a book signing,” Herm said. “It's something that everyone — farmers and non-farmers — should attend. It's for anyone concerned with what we are doing.”

After leaving the farming community for 10 years and returning, Herm was able to see changes that had occurred in the industry. What he saw was a reliance on corporations and chemical products had taken over and transformed the way farmers operate.

“We have lost part of ourselves,” Herm said. “We have gone from calling ourselves farmers to calling ourselves producers. We have become nothing more than an extension of the corporations and stopped being an extension of the earth.”
