FORSAN â Forsan girlsâ basketball coach Robert Hillger didnât have much explanation for Tuesdayâs 44-41 loss to Stanton at home.
He said Stanton beat Forsan fair and square.
âI couldnât figure out our identity Tuesday. At the beginning of the game, really the first half, weâre pushing and running and theyâre making shots and weâre not. We like to push and run and we were down five (at the half) anyway, so I was like âAlright, weâre going to slow down the pace of the game. Weâre going to dictate what we want to do and not let them dictate what we want to do.â
In what was a back and forth affair, Forsan looked like it was out of the game in the third quarter when Stanton outscored the Lady Buffaloes 12-5. The third quarter was good enough for a 41-29 Stanton lead.
But Forsan battled back in the fourth quarter â thanks to forcing turnovers. It was enough to get the last shot of the game when Stanton was up 44-41.
Forsanâs Ambra Hill took the 3-pointer to tie, but it was off the mark and Stanton staved off a district rival.
âYou have to give them a lot of credit,â Stanton head coach Jim Kinnear said. âI think we had a 12-point lead and then they picked up their defensive pressure and we didnât do a very good job of handling it. We let them back in the game. But you have to give our kids a lot of credit, too. We were able to cowboy up and hold our composure.â
Free throws were huge in the closing minutes of Tuesdayâs game, Hillger said. Forsan was 13 for 30 from the line overall. Stanton was just 4 of 11.
Stanton is 2-4 in District 3-2A play and Forsan is 3-3.

FORSAN â Stantonâs Tyler Fulton went on a tear as usual and Trace Sidleâs 19 points didnât hurt the teamâs efforts in Forsan Tuesday night.
