STANTON — The Martin County Buffaloes came out on top Friday as they battled the Howard County Buffaloes. Stanton — who suffered a loss last year at the hands of Forsan — evened the score as SHS dominated FHS 35-6.

The depth and physicality on display by Stanton (2-1) was more intense than Forsan (2-1) had seen in its first two outings.

“They were a good football team,” said FHS Head Coach Jason Phillips. “They were definitely the most physical team we have seen so far. They were big, physical and they executed well. We didn’t. We didn’t play our best game. They got after us from the first kickoff and they stayed on us.”

Phillips credits Stanton for playing the better game, but also said the crowd fed the Martin County Buffs momentum.

“They were yoked up from the start,” Phillips explained. “They were ready to go, it was their homecoming so they had the crowd on their side. Offensively and defensively, we didn’t play too well, but one thing I did see, is that the longer the game went, the harder our kids played. They played hard right until the end.”

In fact, the Buffs’ lone score came in the third quarter when Kolby Self returned a kickoff the distance of the field to put Forsan on the board.
“Kolby had another good game for us,” Phillips added.

Next up for Forsan will be Tuscola’s Jim Ned Indians on Friday in Forsan. As for Stanton, they will be on the road taking on McCamey.
